All of our sales-folk at work were in Vegas this week, so some of us support types were given our own chance to party with one of our clients! Three of my coworkers and I had a chance to see a Seahawks practice at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center (VMAC) in Renton, WA.

The place is huge and amazing. They have three outdoor fields and an full-size, enclosed field made out of the safe turf that Qwest Field has. After the practice we were treated to Famous Dave’s BBQ and a short VIP tour of the facility.
I was very impressed, even though I’m not a huge football fan. I might even get to a game this season…

The highlight of the visit was meeting the hawk. The Seahawks have a real Augur hawk fly out of the tunnel at each game, and he was at practice to get acclimated to the players for the coming season. Apparently the African Augur Hawk is ideal for taming and using in these roles. They’re very elegant and alert. Here’s the official Seahawk’s blog post on the day.

It’s official, I’ll be spending the summer in Federal Way, WA (near Seattle)! I’ll be working for the African Programs department summarizing field proposals and some other work. It’s been looking good for months, but the final decision was made last week!

The White Stripes announced their new album a little while ago. Here’s the cover art:

Last weekend a dozen or so guys from Cru went on the annual Men’s Retreat. Usual activities include shooting potato cannons, football, eating a lot of meat, and blowing things up in the fire. Each year the explosions go up in intensity (this year was model rocket engines and aerosol cans). And we had 6 cannons instead of last year’s single cannon. It was an amazing weekend up in the Adirondacks. On a serious note, the speaker was really good. He was just an average guy with a lot of good advice gathered over the years.
The cannons look something like this and were 4-7 feet long:

As a fan of good music and Get Fuzzy, these are hilarious:

That’s enough of that.
School’s winding down for me. I’ve been writing papers for what feels like forever. My 25-page history thesis is coming along. I keep reminding myself that these might be the last few weeks of school ever; unless I go to grad school…
I’m also in the process of working out an internship with World Vision. I’ve had two interviews and I’m currently doing some work for them so I can get a feel for it and so they can see if they like my work.
Kim’s getting a lot of work done on our marriage (sex) quilt and it’s going to be beautiful! We’re also coming long well on our table. It’s primed and we’re starting to work on the checkered top. We’ll post plenty of pictures when it’s done.
It’s been so long since I’ve posted that I don’t remember everything I wanted to say…

Well, I finally got around to doing this. I got tagged weeks ago.
So, six weird things about me:
- I have an unnatural fear of germs. Therefore I wash my hands… a lot. It’s gotten better though. One of the reasons has to do with my second characteristic.
- I have weird skin problems. In the winter I get skin irritations and rashes because of hard water and the dry air. It’s gross. Washing my hands less helps a little.
- I love ice cream. The weird part is that I eat A LOT of ice cream if given the opportunity. I don’t usually eat an insane amount of food. It’s pretty much just ice cream. A serving for me is usually a quart or so.
- I like to dance to Hey Ya! by Outkast… It’s pretty intense and it often scares people. Thankfully some people enjoy it
- When I’m cleaning the house I actually like doing it. I get into this mood and feel sad if I don’t finish what I’m working on. The satisfaction of finishing a room or whatever is great and then I can just enjoy the cleanliness.
- I love updating software. Even if it’s something I don’t use much I get excited when I see there’s a new patch, etc. This excitement is especially great if it’s one of my favorite programs.
So there’s some of the weird things about me. I’m sure there’s more… I’m just happy Kim can live with my weirdness
I tag Kim, Sara, Dad, Andrew and Balaam’s Ass!
